There are 595 marathons scheduled in the United States and Canada in 2011. 537 of these are in the U.S. and 58 in Canada. In 2010, 570 were held.
The USTAF or Athletics Canada have certified 427 of these marathons.

The New York City Marathon has the highest entry fee: $266. There are several low key marathons without an entry fee.
The median marathon entry fee for 2011 races is $75. There are currently 63 marathons with an entry fee over $100.
In 2010 44,712 people finished the New York City Marathon. Canada's largest marathon was the Ottawa Marathon with 3,865. So far, the New York City Marathon has had the most in 2011 with 46,795 finishers.

The Equinox Marathon in Fairbanks, AK is the northernmost and the Kona Marathon in Kailua-Kona, HI is the southernmost.
