The out-and-back course is run entirely on paved road surfaces. The course begins at The Furniture Gallery, located at 402 Civic Center Drive in Augusta, and guides participants directly north along Route 11. Runners follow this route out toward Belgrade Center before turning around and retracing their steps back to the original starting area. The course travels away from the center, taking participants through a rural, countryside environment.
the course is characterized by the persistent rolling terrain along Route 11 and the scenic, lakeside charm as runners approach the Belgrade area. Because the route traverses an open country setting, participants should be prepared for exposed stretches along the highway with minimal protection from the elements.
A practical pacing strategy relies on maintaining a disciplined, even effort while navigating the continuous, gentle hills during the first half of the race. Overextending on the early inclines can lead to bonking on the return leg.
